The annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is one of the world’s largest international moot court competitions in the field of International Commercial Law and International Arbitration. Each year, students from approximately 300 law schools come to Vienna, Austria to compete in presenting their arguments in oral rounds. In 2003 a sister moot court has been established in Hong Kong, and more than 100 law schools participate in the Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot competition today.
The team of Higher School of Economics has been participating in this prestigious student competition since 2009. During all these years our team has demonstrated a high level of expertise and performance. In March 2014 one of the team members has been honored within top 3 best oralists at the Moscow Pre-Moot. In 2015 the Higher School of Economics has changed its tradition of going to the final rounds to Vienna and for the first time participated in the oral arguments in Hong Kong.
Team’s participation in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is made possible through the support of the teams’ coaches, the Dean of the Law Faculty and the Law Faculty alumnae.
To participate in the moot court competition as part of the Higher School of Economics team the students have to satisfy the competition’s requirements and be prepared to dedicate most of their time to preparing for the competition.
Since the competition starts with release of a hypothetical problem in October, the preparations will begin in September and the decision on submission to the team will be announced in the beginning of October.
This year a new course called “The International Commercial Arbitration Workshop (Практикум по международному коммерческому арбитражу)” will be introduced to the HSE Faculty of Law curriculum. The course will start in September 2017 and will be compulsory to attend for the students who want to join the HSE Vis Moot Team.
